Mustang - Spirit - Large - Adult - Female - Horse
Spirit was said to be mustang, but she's BIG; about the size of a Quarterhorse. It's been proposed that she or her ancestors could have come from some of the larger-stock wild desert horses that many people refer to as mustangs. She is 14 and though she was trained professionally in Arizona she hasn't been ridden in a long time due to her past owner's back injury. She is very sweet when you give her time to warm up, rather than forcing her attentions (treats go a long way with this girl!). She recently lost her long-time horse companion to old age and illness, so we would prefer she go to a new owner with at least one other horse. Spirit is recovering from having a bad case of Summer Itch, but her skin and hair are much improved since moving to her foster home. Her mane and the top 1/3 of her tail are trimmed very short right now, but this "trimming" was being done by her old companion, so we expect her mane and tail to start coming back in soon. Other than those cosmetic issues Spirit is in good shape, just needs a hoof trimming. If we can get her to warm up to our new farrier she will have that taken care of soon. BAM has a special equine adoption application available, separate from that of our indoor pets.
